Partner Math

Partner Monster Squeeze
Today we worked with a partner on our Monster Squeeze number line game.  It was a highlight of the day for many students.  They all love working and talking to each other and since they work so well together, we will be doing partner math games a lot this year!  Yeah!  If you want to play this awesome game, ask your first grader to teach it to you!  It is really fun!

Nature Hike

Nature Hike
We wanted to go on a bit of a hike but the trails haven't been cleared yet so it was a short one.  On our way we did see some cool things.  We noticed an apple tree as well as many apples on the ground eaten!  We think it might be racoons eating them, hmmm!

We also saw frogs jumping out of our way, water bugs and noticed lots of different seed pods on leaves and hanging from branches.  Best part: no one fell into the shallow pond!

Nature reading

Read to Self
We are working on our stamina while silent reading and since we have just talked about our favorite quiet spaces, I thought I would take the kids out to one of my very favorite quiet spaces on campus to read!  We headed out to our nature preserve and went to the seating area next to the pond!  It was very peaceful, but in all honestly, it wasn't the best place to do a silent read!  It was too exciting to actually be silent!   Ha!  They did read for about 10 minutes but it was somewhat of a social reading experience and of course very fun!

It was a bit chilly this morning but if you bring the right clothes you can read anywhere and enjoy yourself!  I love this picture!

Handwriting practice

Handwriting Fun...
Our literacy program, Fundations, really spends a lot of time discussing handwriting and proper formation so we decided to do the same thing and spend some time practicing our letters "t, b, f, m and n" with chalk!  It was so fun and everyone's handwriting was really great!

Monster Squeeze

Monster Squeeze
This is a great way to start using the number line and learning the terms "greater than" and "less than."  The kids loved playing this as a whole class!  Check out some of our teachers for the day!

Aren't these just the most darling pictures ever!  I love that the "teachers" can keep everyone's attention!  What a great game!

The Quiet Place

Reading: The Quiet Place
This is one of my favorite books of all time, because let's be honest... who doesn't need quiet time!  This book discusses how everyone needs some quiet sometimes just to get away.  It talks about going to different places like the beach, back yard, under a bush and in your bedroom.  These places can open the imagination to be far off places or allows you to become anyone or anything while you are there.  This is a book we use to introduce our "Take a Break Chair" in the classroom which we will  use in case student need to get away from the group to calm down or to help them think about our classroom rules.

Healthy Snacks

Healthy Snacks
Fruits, Veggies, Cheese and Yogurt... no nuts or cantaloupe please.  Let's keep our friends healthy and happy!

Wellness Class

Wellness Class
Today we got to visit Coach Hicks in wellness.  We warmed up with the hula hoops!  I loved seeing all the cool things the kids thought to do with them.  Check it out!
