Morning Routine...

So we decided we needed a posted morning routine!  It looks great and I think it will help us be more prepared to start our day!

Pink Day!

Today was a great day of pink.  We all sat down and talked about what wearing pink today was all about!  We discussed that it was in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month and spoke a little bit about what it meant.  When talking to kids about these things we share that sometime our bodies, usually when we get older, might accidentally make sickness that needs a doctor's help to fix.  And many times the doctors are able to help and make people feel better because they have special medicine that can fight the sickness.

Many friends in class mentioned that they had family members who had survived breast cancer!   Most of us wore pink of some kind and others decided to borrow my pink scarf to show their support for the people who have fought against breast cancer as well as for the families that love them!  We all want a cure!

A friend wore a special shirt today with names of friends who have fought against the disease!  Love it!

Word Detectives

We used our binoculars to help us look for words that have chunks in them!
(Some chinks we searched for: ch, th, wh, sh, er, ing, oo, ow, ou, ir, all, etc.)

Matter Experiment!

We were working with the states of matter!  We added vinegar and baking soda together then worked really fast to put the balloon over the opening and catch the gas that is trying to escape!

This is our science center this week and every child has been able to work with a few classmates to create their own experiment!  Some worked and some did not!  We got to write about the experiments when we finished!  Very cool!

Making Slime

Parent volunteers created a really fun science experiment about matter for our class!  We used some liquids and solids to create some really neat slime!  The students had the absolute best time!  They asked if we could do this everyday!

Movement with Mr. Stankowski #2

Learning how to move in both a flying and floating motion.

What is matter?

Solid, Liquid and Gases: which is which?

Math Addition: Pumpkin Bump

We are practicing addition fluency to 12!  We used dice to add numbers together!  It was really fun and we were learning!  School is so fun!

Drama... And excuses!

Working in groups of 3 and 4 to create a tall tale story for why we were "late" to something.  Some were late to school, others to practice and even some to the eye doctor!  It was very fun and allowed us to create and show ideas we would later use in a writing where we learned how to use transition words!

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses!

Pretending to be late to a special event and giving our "excuses" for why we are late!  We learned to use transition words when telling a story!

First a HUGE spider attacked us and wrapped me in a web!
And then a giant stomped down the road so I had to go a different way!
Finally I was picked up by an eagle and dropped off outside of town!
That's why I am late!

Make 10!

Working with partners to come up with as many ways to make 10 as possible!

Then we got to be the teachers!
