Unique Turkey Traits!

We read the book Turk and Runt today and listened about two very unique turkeys!  We decided to create a whole yard of turkeys with qualities that make tether special and fancy!  So we did some turkey acting... In slow motion!

We also discussed fancy words and how they make our writing more colorful and interesting to read!

The we began work on our writing about turkey!  You could have heard a pin drop in the room because they had so much to share about their turkey traits!  We have some ninja turkeys, dancing turkeys, army turkeys rainbow turkeys and so many other awesome attributes to share about each one!

Phone Calls to "Canada"

The students used their imagination to call other farmers to find out if they too had been losing livestock!
Each student got to be the researcher and then the farmer or citizen who needs help from us, the National Geographic researchers!
We had question prompt sheets in case they needed them but the students each asked some really meaningful questions during their interview!

Kids were even introduced to note taking where they can write down quickly things they don't want to forget!  They drew words and pictures to help them remember the important parts of their conversations!

Setting up the Farms

We went back in time about 4 years and pretended to be the farmers when they were first deeded the land for their farms.  They were given their land and asked to build a farm that could hold animals as well as anything else they think they needed.

So off to work the farmers went building a home for themselves and their families!
Barns and fences were erected!

The farm houses began taking shape!

Fields were plowed and planted.

Animals were purchased and set to roam.

Animal homes were set up.

Farming was a way of life and the these are some of the greatest farmers around.

A surrounding forest began to take shape.

The finishing touches added!

Trap Training...

Today we learned about different traps that could be out in the forest.  We needed to learn about them and then learn how to disarm them safely!

This trap is an animal hologram type of trap.  It can scare you off in a different direction when the hologram animal jumps out at you!
This trap is like a scissor grab... When you walk through it, it shuts on your leg.

This is similar to the scissor grab but it also has a sleeping spray attached to it.  Once trapped, it will spray it in your face and you will fall right to sleep!

A scare trap where an animal jumps out and scares you into the arms of a squeeze trap.  Once you are in it's vice grip you aren't getting out!

Even or Odd

Today we sorted differs dominoes!  First we sorted ones that had all even numbers and then all odd numbers.  We had to really pay attention to the dominoes to get the right dominoes in the right place!

Videos from Canada

Today we received video clips from the farmers in Canada.  They have set up video recording devices to try to help figure out where their animals are disappearing to.  There were a lot of clues we noticed in the video clips!

1. They are all occurring at night
2. Many times there are broken fences after a showdown appears on screen.
3. There are usually 2 figures at the time of the disappearances, and sometimes one looks like a dog-like figure.
4. The figure is going into the barn to take the animals out and using a tranquilizer... Only people would use a tranquilizer!
5. Sometimes they escape in a car... Only humans drive!
6.  They are wearing masks to hide who they are.
7. There are footprints leading in specific directions.
8. We need to be able to take good medical care of the animals in case they are sick or hurt.

Packing List!

We need to pack for our mission!  There are so many special things we need to take with us!  Here is our packing list!  There are things like food, binoculars, flashlights, hiking boots, motorcycles, a dog, coats, shovels, first aid kit and south more!

We just keep adding and adding each day!
