Animal Nonfiction Project

It's time to pick our "Aquarium" animal for Carnival of the Animal show!  We checked out PebbleGo for some ideas and made a list of our favorites!

Books and Art...

Preparing for our book project share!

Book Project Share

Today we tried our very first book project share day!  I didn't know what to expect but I was amazed at how well they represented their books from our reading groups.

They each looked through all the books they have been reading and picked their favorite one to use.  Once they had their book they created a representation of the most important part or facts they read.  Then they were to write 4 or more "facts" about the story.

Now it is time to check out the books and projects of our friends...
It was fun to watch the kids pick the up the books their friends likes and begin reading them on their own.

Doesn't it look awesome!

Becoming doctors...

Learning how to be a doctor!  We got a crash course in some general doctor work.  One of our mom's brought a lot of tools in to let us practice on!

We are able to listen to our hearts and our bellies!  We even heard our breakfast moving though the intestines!  Cool!

Doctors need to be able to read x-rays too!

Aquarium sewing Project

Yes that is right, your first grader is going to sew a stuffed animal this year and it is going to be awesome!  Many of you have already emailed me about coming in to help monitor the work too!  These are big animals and we need all the help we can get! I am hoping to have 6 marine animals completed or at least mostly completed by the end of the day Friday!

So check those calendars again and see if you can spare some time between now and performance day (March 11)

Place Value

Learning place value is a great way to begin to introduce different strategies for bigger addition and subtraction problems!  So here we are getting our introduction to 10s and 1s!  We will discuss the 100s place too!

"Sasha"

One of our favorite morning meeting greetings is "Sasha!"  It is a musical song that Mrs. Lichtman taught me years ago that allows us to greet a lot of people in a fun choreographed way!  Check out those smiles!

Movie night!

Selfies at the k-1 movie night!  What a blast!

Swan Masks

Today we worked on our swan poem and designed our masks!  Costume design will help us put ourselves into character for our March 11th performance!

Here is a preview of our swan costumes! You will have to come see the show to see the rest!

They even self initiated a super clean up!

Dance practice begins...

Dance Choreography

Today we got to meet Ms. Stephanie from New Albany Ballet Company who is working with us to choreograph both the swan and aquarium dances.  Today we worked on the swans and they got through the entire song!  I can't believe it!  So proud of them, the show is going to be awesome!

Poor Ugly Duckling

Poor ugly duckling, he was so sad everyone was mean to him!  We overheard him crying and just had to help!

We all had a chance to be his voice so that the other friends could hear how sad he was.

Ugly Duckling Designs

We had a lot of creative minds at work this week while trying to come up with ways to help the ugly duckling feel better about himself.  From new outfits, buttons that began compliment recordings, fancy pools, special places to rest and lots of glittery sparkles this ugly duckling couldn't help but smile and feel special.

Check us out at work:
